Data.Gov Is Open for Business

by

The Obama Administration opened the doors on a new website, data.gov, which has as its goal to put government data into the hands of the public to analyze.  In a great interview with WFED Radio, federal CIO Vivek Kundra said that while the site currently only has 46 data sets from 26 agencies, his goal is to have 240,000 data sets posted by the end of June.

The Sunlight Foundation, an open government advocacy group, says it is launching an “Apps for America” contest to encourage citizens to develop web applications that use these data in ways that the public will find useful.  Kundra sponsored a similar effort when he was chief technology officer for the District of Columbia.
